After a few weekends in a row of heavy rain and strong winds, Chris and I, along with the rest of Edinburgh, were starting to feel a bit stir crazy. Determined to change our attitude, we made a pact to get out this weekend come hell or likely high water. We were in luck! Fog and sunshine were a welcome change. On Saturday we walked to Dishoom, a relatively new place to open here. It was seriously amazing. Delicious food that we’re both still salivating over and the restaurant itself looks like my dream home. I’m sure we will be back as soon as the hankering for 24 hour black dhal returns. After rolling ourselves out of the beautiful space, we walked our way to the library to scope out the shelves for some new books to pore over during the inevitable rainy evenings. We also made a quick stop at the market for the necessary loaf of bread required to fuel our future hankering for toast. On Sunday we walked a few blocks to the café Milk for some coconut mochas and muffins. After our hipster second breakfast, we made our way to the cinema for a nearly private viewing of Hidden Figures, pockets stuffed with contraband sweets brought from home. I’d highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it already. It was one of those films that left us sad when it had ended purely because we wanted it to keep going. We spent the rest of the day at home, Chris sketching while I turned some leftover muffins into a bread pudding because moments of genius happen to us all. With the weather appearing to improve and the daffodils blooming with enthusiasm, it seems as though this weekend might be a real start to spring. Let’s all hope I didn’t just jinx it.
