On a summer Sunday at the start of September, Chris and I ventured out to the Pentland Hills. Climbing up and wandering around the hills had been on our to do list since we came to Edinburgh, and with Monday marking a year since we’d arrived, we figured it was about time to cross it off our list. The sun was shining and we found ourselves with a perfect day to do so. We packed some sandwiches and a few biscuits for good measure, which we ate at the top, admiring the city below. As it was a clear day we could see right over the Firth and we happily snacked away, trying to find our flat in the tiny city below. After exhausting ourselves before noon, we decided that some down time with coffee was just what we needed. Off we popped to Noir, a wonderful café down our street and a current firm favourite. Armed with iced coffees, laptops and lavender cake, we happily stayed planted for the rest of the afternoon. Chris worked on photos and some illustrations while I alternated between wrestling with words and looking up flights for our next getaway. This year has gone by frighteningly quickly and while in some moments it feels like we’ve just arrived, others feel as though we’ve been here for years. It’s certainly been a stressful year at times, and I know both Chris and I are looking forward to being more settled in this next. That being said, what a year. We’ve traveled to so many wonderful cities, we’ve moved into our first flat and made it our home, and we’ve continued to explore and fall in love with the beautiful Edinburgh. I find myself annoyingly reflective as we start our second year and my hopes for it are high. More travels, more writing, continued laughter and, please dear God, less spiders.
